Although the club has already invested heavily in a central defender bringing in Issa Diop, speculation continues to appear suggesting that Manuel Pellegrini would like to add another top-notch centre back to his squad.
The centre back in question being Jamaal Lascelles who is on the books of our Premier League rivals Newcastle United.
However, despite it being reported, by the local north-east media source, the Northern Echo, that West Ham are willing to pay a fee of £20 million for the 24-year-old English defender, a deal could be hard to conclude.
The Newcastle boss, Rafael Benitez, is adamant that the club want to keep their captain.
Now whether Mike Ashley can be persuaded to sell remains to be seen but our view is that if there is any chance of the Hammers signing Lascelles they should pursue a deal.
Persistence could, in this case, be the key word if a deal is, somehow, to be concluded.
