Stuart Pearce is probably facing the chop, but West Ham boss Alan Pardew has to return to winning ways at Manchester City, for his own good.

The high-profile signings of Carlos Tevez and Javier Mascherano have contributed to a turbulent spell for the Hammers boss. But he knows you are only as good as your last game, and he wants a turn around on Saturday.

Pardew: ‘We have worked very hard this week.

‘I’ve told the players that we just can’t afford to lose what we’re about – the speed, the spirit and the togetherness – because we need to pass and attack quickly.

‘As a squad, we’ve got to cut out the grey areas with the new guys, who are not too familiar with what we’re doing and we need to get back to black and white so that everyone knows their role.’
