Pablo Fornals pleased with club claiming first points of the season

Pablo Fornals has admitted he is pleased that West Ham were able to acquire their first points of the new Premier League season against Brighton.

After losing their opening game of the season 5-0 to Manchester City, the Hammers travelled to the south coast to take on a Brighton side that managed an impressive 3-0 win in their first match of the new campaign away to Watford.

Despite the contrasting starts to the season, Manuel Pellegrini’s side were able to take a point off the high-flying seagulls in a 1-1 draw, and new summer signing Fornals admitted to West Ham’s official website that he was delighted to get a point on the board.

The Spanish youngster said: “This is all new for me. It is a new league, a new experience, new stadiums and new rivals. It was a great match, a hard match and I’m happy for my first point in this league.

“It was very hard for me. I need to play more games to really understand the new game and my new team more.

“Many people talked about the characteristics of the Premier League, but you need to live these things to understand this league. It’s so hard, very difficult, and whatever team you play against in this league is very competitive.”

The former Villarreal midfielder also praised teammate Javier Hernandez, who scored the opening goal of the game and West Ham’s first strike of the new 2019/20 season.

Fornals said: “Everyone is very happy for him (Hernandez). It was an unspeakable experience to be on the pitch when he scored his goal! It’s a great point and a difficult point. This team (Brighton) won three-nil in their last match against Watford, so it’s difficult to win a point in this stadium.”
