West Ham were knocked out of the EFL Cup by London rivals Tottenham Hotspur on Wednesday evening, with Mauricio Pochettino’s side advancing into the quarter-finals after a routine 3-1 victory at the London Stadium.

Heung-Min Son scored either side of the break to put Spurs in control but some hope was restored after substitute Lucas Perez found the net after 71 minutes – but Fernando Llorente’s effort just four minutes later ended any chance of a dramatic fightback occurring.

The result continues a disappointing start to the season for Manuel Pellegrini, who will now have to focus solely on the Premier League until the Hammers’ FA Cup campaign begins in the New Year, and fans were left disappointed by one summer signing.

Club-record addition Felipe Anderson was sacrificed at half-time for the introduction of Robert Snodgrass, who provided the equaliser for Lucas Perez’s goal, and the Brazilian left a lot to be desired with another disappointing performance.

West Ham fans certainly expect more from their most expensive addition and fans took to social media to criticise the winger. We have gathered some of the best reactions below.

  • I think we have to give him a little more time, after all Arnie was complete dogsh*te until the 2nd half of the season and look at him now we´re toothless without him!!

  • I dont think he is up to the pace of the prem…Just watch him when he gets the ball at his feet..He looks up for another player..And his reaction is so slow the ball is taken from him!..Italian football is slower…He needs to be sharper other wise he is going to be sold on.

  • Ripped off by Lazio, Anderson really is rubbish….
Arnoutovic always changes our game when he’s playing unfortunately it was just too late…
Praises for Diangana, Masuaku and Rice other than these we looked destined for the championship….
Being a Hammers fan at the moment isn’t a joy like it used to be going back a few years ago….
Bring back H Pelegrini isn’t right for the job….
