Opinion: West Ham’s weekend win chances boosted by Palace selection woes

|

West Ham fans on Twitter and everywhere else are absolutely loving life this season in the Premier League. After getting over the Manchester City result, the Hammers have gone on to play out their next six games unbeaten, and now they face Crystal Palace on the weekend.

It’s going to be a tough test for the Irons, as the old cliche holds true that there are no easy games in the English top-flight. However, this one has been made so much easier by the fact that Crystal Palace are going to be without two of their key players for the clash this weekend.

One of those two is Luka Milivojevic, as he’s joined a select group of players who have managed to earn themselves a suspension for picking up five bookings with just seven games of a Premier League season, and the other is the injured Mamadou Sakho.

This news comes from Hammers.news, and it has to be a huge boost for the home side ahead of the 17:30 kick-off. Mark Noble and Declan Rice will be salivating at the idea of controlling the midfield in this London derby now that Palace’s chief midfield man is out.

Equally, Sebastien Haller’s job at the top of the pitch will certainly be made easier now that one of the Eagles’ best defenders is out of the clash. The French striker likely would have been up for a real fight against his countryman at the back, but now it looks like being an easier game for the striker.

The visit of Palace is by no means an easy game for the Irons, though, even with their missing duo. The likes of Jordan Ayew, Wilfried Zaha and Andros Townsend will all likely be at their best roaming around looking for goals, and Manuel Pellegrini’s backline certainly have a job on their hands, even if the midfield and attack fancy themselves against a depleted Crystal Palace.
