Opinion: West Ham’s luck is out as another top player suffers massive blow

|

A lot of West Ham fans were left gutted last season when Manuel Lanzini missed the majority of the campaign with a serious knee injury that was suffered prior to the World Cup in Russia, and now his injury hell has continued as just a couple of months into his first full season back from a serious injury and he’s out again.

This time, the injury blow that we’ve seen came in a game for the Hammers, as with the travelling side trailing 3-0 to Burnley at Turf Moor, the Argentine was bundled off the ball in cynical fashion and on his way down he landed awkwardly on his shoulder and has suffered a suspected broken collarbone.

The verdict on his time out of the game has come from West Ham insider ExWHUemployee, who has taken to Twitter to give the fans the news of the suspected broken collarbone, and he’s also given them a timeline as the club expects to have Lanzini back in around two months.

However, the Hammers are set to suffer without Lanzini. The attacking midfield man may have been yet to score in the Premier League in his 11 appearances in the competition so far (Transfermarkt) but he’s managed three assists and his numbers have been solid even if he’s not found the net yet.

So far this season, the Hammers have watched on as Lanzini has averaged 1.3 shots, 1.9 key passes and 2.5 dribbles per game, as well as also winning an average of 1.3 fouls per game too (WhoScored), so whilst he hasn’t scored, his numbers have been mightily impressive.

Do West Ham need January signings?

Yes

No

When Lanzini returns to the starting eleven it will come as a massive boost for the supporters. His creative abilities in the middle of the park are key to the way that the Irons play and when he does eventually make his return the Hammers will be in a brilliant place.
