Opinion: West Ham need to take a very cautious approach should they sack Manuel Pellegrini

|

It has been widely reported that Manuel Pellegrini is fighting to save his job at The London Stadium, and the Hammers could well find that they are managerless come Sunday, as Pellegrini could be sacked if he fails to mastermind a win over Southampton on Saturday.

One of the sources to come out with this revelation regarding Pellegrini has come from ExWHUemployee on Twitter, and with that being said, the Hammers need to think very carefully about who comes next after the Chilean should he fail to beat the Saints this weekend.

West Ham’s last few appointments have been mostly failures. Pellegrini’s first season was promising enough, but ultimately finishing 10th was hardly impressive given the strength of the squad, and before Pellegrini, it was David Moyes, who came in and did his job by keeping the Irons in the Premier League.

Even before Moyes, Slaven Bilic had his moments but ultimately failed to get the club into a stable position after they moved from Upton Park to the London Stadium, and now when they look ahead to who comes in next, the decision-making process needs to be done properly.

The best option, in our opinion at Vital West Ham, would be for the board to refrain from bringing in a new manager straight away. The Irons should give the caretaker job to Enzo Maresca, who The Guardian have claimed is the man who masterminded the win over Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, and then make a decision with the future in mind next summer.

Can Pellegrini save himself from here?

Yes

No

Whoever comes in and follows Pellegrini must go back to basics. Money needs to be spent to improve problem areas, but integrating the likes of Grady Diangana, Ben Johnson and Nathan Holland has to be a priority for the West Ham board, and they have to take their time to ensure the right man is brought in.
