Opinion: West Ham higher up has bought himself time, but isn’t yet out of the woods

|

Manuel Pellegrini may well have got himself a massive 1-0 away win over Stamford Bridge with West Ham on the weekend, and it was certainly a massive step in the right direction for the Irons’ boss, but he certainly isn’t out of the woods yet in regards to the pressure surrounding his loss.

The last couple of months will have been so tough for the Chilean gaffer, and it would come as no surprise if it were to be revealed that his sleep has suffered for it, seeing as his side did go on an abysmal run of just one win in ten games, but he still has work to do.

The win over Chelsea may have bought him some crucial and valuable time, but with Wolves and Arsenal up next before a clash with Southampton, he has his work cut out for him. The easier of those three games is almost certainly the game against the Saints, but with the Hammers, anything can happen.

The win away at Stamford Bridge is not something that many, if any, of the travelling supporters would have expected, yet the West Ham way seems to deliver these big wins despite underperformance against the supposed ‘lowly’ Premier League teams.

Should Pellegrini manage to pick up another three points tonight against Wolves and then a third win in three games against the shambolic Gunners on the weekend then you’d imagine that the Irons’ boss will have successfully weathered the storm, but that work still needs to be done.

Should Manuel Pellegrini be backed or sacked?

Backed!

Sacked!

At this stage, whether or not Pellegrini is still in charge come Christmas day is up for debate, but it’s something that will be purely up to the Chilean, although should he pull some more wins out of the bag then he should survive for at least a few more months.
