Opinion: West Ham have to ensure that youngster is given the platform to be a Premier League star next season

|

This season has been one that will have been a huge learning curve for one West Ham loanee. The Hammers have got a talented group of young players on their books, and Grady Diangana has taken the Championship by storm, showing just what he can do when given consistent game time.

At the age of just 21-years-old, the impressive winger has a lot of time to show what he can do in the Premier League, and if he gets the game time that he’s been getting this season in the top flight then there’s no reason why he can’t continue to flourish.

Diangana has provided goals at a rate of over one every two games in the Championship this season. Scoring five times and assisting six in 21 games in the second-tier of English football (Transfermarkt), and his underlying numbers have been just as impressive.

The youngster has been averaging 1.1 tackles, 1.5 shots, 1.3 key passes and 2.3 dribbles per game in the Championship (WhoScored), and whilst the top flight is a different beast to the Championship, Diangana has shown the nouse to be able to thrive in a physical league and should be able to apply that to the Premier League.

We’re not expecting the West Ham academy man to come into the team for the Premier League next season, start all 38 games and break the goalscoring record, but his talents are those of a budding top-flight star, and there’s no reason why David Moyes can’t utilise his obvious ability and squeeze double figures combined goals and assists out of him.

Is Diangana good enough for the Premier League?

Yes, get him in for next season

No, he's not ready

Obviously, though Diangana isn’t the only impressive player in a talented group of academy prospects. There’s also another loanee winger in the form of Nathan Holland who has had much acclaim, and the future can certainly be bright for the Hammers if this talent is nurtured correctly.
