Opinion: West Ham fans have got a reason to get excited as key man continues hot streak

|

The Hammers have enjoyed an impressive start to the Premier League season so far, and whilst their six-game unbeaten run came to its end when they faced Crystal Palace at home in the final game they took part in before the international break.

Part of the reason for the Iron’s strong start has been the incredible form of one man in particular, no, not Aaron Cresswell, but Andriy Yarmolenko. The Ukranian winger-cum-forward has been electric for the Hammers and going into the international break he’s been doing the exact same thing.

Whilst the West Ham man failed to get on the score sheet or register an assist against Lithuania, he did put in a more impressive display on Monday evening, as he bagged the second of the game, one that turned out to be the winner, in a thrilling 2-1 win over Portugal that saw his nation qualify for the Euros.

For a lot of the Irons, though, that will come as no surprise. It might be a slight shock that Yarmolenko outperformed Cristiano Ronaldo on the night, but his form and rate of goalscoring has been phenomenal this season, and there was no reason why he wasn’t going to continue that for his country.

In seven Premier League outings this season the winger has got three goals to his name, and whilst he missed plenty of action last season when he suffered that dreadful ruptured achilles, this season it seems clear that the big man is simply making up for lost time, as his displays have been sublime.

Staying fit will be key for the West Ham man, as the goals he brings are a much-needed boost, and the way that he links up with Sebastien Haller, who has been equally superb at holding the ball up and bringing Yarmolenko into play, is nothing short of a match made in heaven for the Irons.
