Opinion: West Ham fans could be set for a massacre if things don’t drastically improve this week

|

Back in the glorious days of Slaven Bilic and Dimitri Payet, West Ham United enjoyed three wins over Liverpool in the same season in 2015/16. Those days, though, now feel like an age away as the Hammers are battling with relegation and face a midweek tie against World Champions Liverpool.

The Irons have already been blown away by Manchester City and Leicester this season, and things don’t look good as they now face a test against the Premier League’s top side after being taught a footballing lesson by the 2nd and 3rd placed teams.

Things are shaping up for this game to look like a massacre. There’s no other way of putting it. The Irons are fresh off the back of getting beaten 1-0 by Championship West Brom in the FA Cup despite the Baggies finishing the game off by spending 20 minutes with ten men, and now they face the best team in the world.

It won’t be at all easy for West Ham when they host the Reds tomorrow, but David Moyes will have to just do what he can and try to get through the clash without too much embarrassment. The fans are certainly not going to be holding out for points from this one, and who can blame them.

This clash against Liverpool is just the first in an awful run of fixtures that sees the Hammers face Chelsea, Tottenham, Arsenal, Manchester City, Wolves and Liverpool again in their next nine games, and this really could be the beginning of the end of the Hammers’ time in the top flight.

Will we sign anyone?

Yes

No

If Moyes and co can pull off a miracle and get something from Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool then it will truly be an incredible moment for the fans to savour, but the chances are very slim, especially when you factor in the Irons’ recent form.
