Opinion: West Ham castaway gave good account of himself and could help boost his future

|

West Ham have made it pretty clear they aren’t interested in having Sam Byram stick around for another season.

He was used in an attempt to sign Salomón Rondón, as reported by Football League World and was also left out of the 23-man squad that will travel to China for the Premier League Asian Trophy.

It is still uncertain where he will be by the time the summer transfer window closes, though it won’t be London Stadium by the looks of things.

Nevertheless, he gave a good account of himself in the 22 minutes he played in the Hammers’ 3-2 win against Altach – having come on at left-back for Ben Johnson.

He looked comfortable on the ball throughout his time on the pitch and was never caught out of position.

The 25-year-old was also involved in some brilliant build-up play, almost scoring a goal having cut through the Altach defence with quick passes and close control.

This won’t have much of an impact on whether he will remain in claret and blue, but it was still good to see the player so many fans had held such hope for playing well.

If nothing else, the professionalism he shows and his application during the game could help secure a buyer for him.

Hopefully, the former Leeds United man will be able to find a team where he can get regular game time and the attention he deserves.
