Opinion: There’s only one man that Manuel Pellegrini should build West Ham around next season

|

It’s clear that, at West Ham, there are the foundations for a successful team. There are a number of players that are amongst the Premier League’s most exciting, and there are others that have a lot of potential. For Pellegrini, that should be a very exciting prospect.

If this season was one of transition, next season should be one of success and excitement. And that’s why Manuel Pellegrini must be looking at the squad and determining how it will look for the season to come.

He’ll have to identify the few players that he turns to every week that form the centre of his plans, and one man that should certainly be on that list is Felipe Anderson.

Since moving to London last summer, it’s fair to say that the talented Brazilian has had a remarkable campaign. With 9 goals and 4 assists, he’s been at the heart of everything the Hammers have done moving forward – but his contributions go far beyond that.

He’s been more involved than most fans would have expected thanks to the remarkable effort that he puts into every game. He’s a constant runner, and whilst that largely pays dividends going forward, it’s also hugely useful defensively.

Beyond that, he’s also been so consistent. Whilst other players can disappear for weeks at a time, the talented Brazilian has been at his best for much of the season, and given that it’s his first season in England, that’s remarkable.

Whenever a player does well, there’s always going to be concern that he could leave. But in Felipe Anderson, West Ham have a player that they can’t afford to lose any under circumstances.

It’s time to make him the focus, even more than he has been this term.
