Opinion: Should West Ham look to the market, one name stands out to fill problem area

|

Between Lukasz Fabianski and David Martin, West Ham have got an amazing goalkeeper and a goalkeeper who can do a job on a short-term basis. However, Roberto Jimenez is a shocking option and the points dropped when he was being relied upon could prove costly later in the season.

After Fabianski went down against Bournemouth and had to come off, things went off the rails. Now, though the Pole’s return is getting closer and closer, and as Martin has stepped in the goalkeeping issues are a lot less severe.

With that being said, a lot of fans still want to see a more capable longer-term second choice ‘keeper coming in, even if David Martin has proven to be good enough, and West Ham insider ExWHUemployee has claimed on Twitter that the Hammers could be set to bring in a shot-stopper in January.

The reliable Irons’ source has claimed that Darren Randolph is being looked at as a potential signing, whilst the other two names that are mentioned are Stoke City and former Stoke City goalkeepers Jack Butland and Asmir Begovic.

However, of the three of those, the best option is certainly the Republic of Ireland ‘keeper Randolph. The Middlesbrough ‘keeper knows what it’s like to play for West Ham, he’s played second-fiddle at the club before and he’s certainly good enough to play Premier League football if he’s ever called upon.

Is Roberto the worst goalkeeper you've ever seen?

Yes

No

The 32-year-old is currently sitting 19th in the Championship and could be facing relegation if the Boro’s form doesn’t pick up, so a potential return to the Premier League could be very tempting, even if the amount of football he’d be playing would decrease.
