Opinion: New backroom staff deals can hopefully set foundations for a secure future at West Ham

|

It might not seem like a significant story on the surface, but I think there’s a lot more to it than might initially meet the eye.

It was announced yesterday by the club that Stuart Pearce has returned to the club as a first-team coach, whilst Kevin Nolan and Paul Nevin have also signed new deals at the London Stadium to keep them amongst David Moyes’ backroom staff.

To me, this shows an incredible amount of faith that the board have placed in Moyes in allowing him to bring in people that he is comfortable working with and who he thinks can get the best out of the squad, and that should hopefully be setting the groundworks for a long spell at the club.

Not quite the same length as his spell as Everton boss I’d imagine, but hopefully longer than his first time in charge of us.

Will David Moyes get a new contract this season?

Yes

No

It’s been a long time since we’ve had some sort of ‘stability’ in the dugout, you can make the argument we haven’t really had it since Slaven Bilic’s first season at the club and the final one at The Boleyn Ground, with that troublesome first season in Stratford not exactly making life comfortable before slowly seeping into the following campaign.

Now though, it looks as if Moyes is going to be given more control in how he wants his coaching staff to be set up having only been appointed midway through the last campaign when it might have been difficult to bring new staff on board. I just hope that the club continue to show faith in the current coaching team in the coming weeks and months, and give Moyes a new contract to go with the rest of them.

What about you? Do you think that these backroom deals are a step in the right direction under Moyes?
