Opinion: Looking at the weakness that West Ham can exploit when Tottenham come to town

|

Tottenham supporters will be looking to kick off Jose Mourinho’s career at their club with a win at The London Stadium this weekend, whilst the West Ham supporters will be desperate to spoil the party. For the Hammers to come out on top, though, there are key things they can do tactically.

The main one of those things is targetting a certain key area, as whilst Manuel Pellegrini has got some extremely talented players, lining them up against Spurs’ stronger areas won’t necessarily get them the result that they want.

With that in mind, the man who we’re calling upon to step up in order to get at Tottenham is Felipe Anderson, as his role on the left-wing means he’ll be directly going up against whoever Mourinho decides to start at right-back this season.

All of Juan Foyth, Kyle Walker-Peters, Serge Aurier, Davinson Sanchez and Moussa Sissoko have had a run at right-back for Tottenham this season and considering that there are five players there to have tried their hand at right-back over the course of 17 games, something is very wrong.

It’s hard to predict who will be trusted by Mourinho in his first game, but if Felipe Anderson can find his explosive and direct best form then there really is no reason why he can’t make the difference, getting in behind the Spurs back four and exploiting their weakest point.

Will we beat Spurs this weekend?

Yes

No

For it to happen, Anderson will have to find a level that he’s been yet to manage this season. However, the last time that Felipe Anderson faced a Jose Mourinho side at The London Stadium he scored his first goal for the club in a 3-1 win over Manchester United, and if he can deliver against the Portuguese tactician again then he could get his manager a much-needed three points.
