Opinion: January window is becoming more and more crucial for West Ham United

|

West Ham fabs enjoyed a strong start to their 2019/20 season, although things have quickly gone off the boil. The Hammers are currently on a six-game winless run, and whilst getting three points against Burnley at Turf Moor would end that torrid run, there is still work to be done.

Looking at the current crop of players at West Ham at the moment, there are obvious gaps in the squad. Lukasz Fabianski is a top ‘keeper but behind him, the likes of Roberto and David Martin are lacking, at right-back after Ryan Fredericks Pablo Zabaleta looks past it, despite his impressive career, and there are only two out-and-out strikers in the squad.

With that being said, making some January signings looks to be key, amd whilst there may not be an awful lot of cash in the transfer kitty for Manuel Pellegrini and Mario Hussilos to work with, but that doesn’t necessarily stop them from being able to bring in a player or two.

Aside from Sebastien Haller and Albian Ajeti the Irons have very few options to play up-front, with Michail Antonio being one of those. However, bringing in some reinforcements could be key. Ian Dennis of the BBC is reporting that the Hammers are interested in Mbwana Samatta.

The Genk striker, as claimed by Dennis on Twitter, has a release cause of around £10m, and bringing him into the side would bring some added goals that Pellegrini could really do with. Whether or not there are additions made is yet to be seen, but the fans will want business to be conducted and it’s hard to blame them.

Do West Ham need January signings?

Yes

No

It’s always hard to get deals over the line during the mid-season window, but with West Ham struggling for form and seemingly a lot going wrong, if they can’t get over their recent struggles then it could leave the club with no choice but to spend some money.
