Opinion: It’s high time 21-goal West Ham ace stepped up this season

|

No one is doubting the talent that Manuel Lanzini has at his disposal. The Hammers’ attacking midfield man is a superb player and has a lot of ability, however, this season we’re yet to see the best of him in claret and blue in his eight appearances in the Premier League.

Over the course of his West Ham career, Lanzini has chimed in with 21 goals and 19 assists across 116 games, including two assists this season in the league, yet in terms of a goalscoring threat the Argentine has a lot more to give, and it’s about time we saw that from him.

The likes of Sebastien Haller and Andriy Yarmolenko have certainly helped the Irons with their goal returns this season, and it’s about time that Lanzini did the same thing. However, he’s not the only one who could do with adding some goals to the Irons’ Premier League campaign.

Felipe Anderson can be accused of the same thing, however, Anderson is doing more on the creative front, pitching in with more assists than his fellow South American. The next step for Lanzini this season has to be getting on the scoresheet and a clash with out-of-form Everton could be perfect for him.

Throughout the midfield maestro’s career, the only team that Lanzini has scored against more times than Everton is Crystal Palace. Against the Eagles, Lanzini has four goals, whilst against Everton, he’s bagged three times and could make the Toffees his join favourite side to pile misery on with a strong display this weekend.

It certainly won’t be easy, with the Goodison Park side under plenty of pressure given their awful start to the season as they currently sit in the relegation zone, but Lanzini has to improve in front of goal, and there truly is no time like the present.
