Opinion: It simply has to be time for West Ham to give this youngster his shot

|

West Ham fans have had a really rough time as of late. Across their last six games, two have been drawn and four have been lost, meaning they’ve been winless for a whopping 43 days, and the winless run continues after the Hammers lost at home to Newcastle United on the weekend (Transfermarkt).

It looks like the Irons are devoid of all confidence and form going forward. The likes of Manuel Lanzini and Felipe Anderson have been in awful form as of late, and if the Irons want to see a pacey, goalscoring attacking midfielder in the side, they really don’t have to look too far for it.

Considering that neither of the club’s South American stars Lanzini or Anderson have scored in the Premier League this season, change may be needed in those attacking areas, and the fans can find the man to get behind much closer to home than a new signing, and without recalling a loanee.

A lot of fans will like the idea of calling back Grady Diangana from his loan at West Brom, but another option for the Hammers is the incredibly talented Nathan Holland. The youngster scored twice on Sunday as the Irons’ U23s won 4-2 away against Swansea’s young side, and he’s in amazing form at the moment.

So far this season the 21-year-old has scored eight goals and registered four assists in ten games in the Premier League 2 this season, including bagging six in his last four games (Transfermarkt). However, the one chance he’s had in the senior side was not a memorable one, as his start coincided with a 4-0 loss to Oxford United.

Should Nathan Holland be given a run in the first team?

Yes of course! He can't make us worse

Not yet! He's not ready

That shouldn’t be a reason to drop the youngster and not give him another look in, though. The winger was in no way responsible for any of the goals that the League One side scored against them in that clash, and it shouldn’t be a reason to turn a blind eye to him if he’s needed.
