Opinion: Argentine midfielder would be huge as West Ham target improvement

|

The transfer window is in it’s last hours and the rumours are still flying, the late business is still being done and plenty of clubs and fans alike are still hooked on the fever that comes with the silly season. At West Ham, it’s no different, and it looks like there may still be some business.

The most likely no signing, that would be following the signing of Goncalo Cardoso from yesterday, is that of Albian Ajeti from Basel. However, after the Hammers allowed Pedro Obiang to leave the club earlier this summer, bringing in a replacement midfielder could be key.

That’s where this South American name comes in, as plenty of fans have been bombarding their reliable Twitter man, ExWHUemployee, with questions, he’s given his verdict on the club’s links to Stuttgart midfielder Santiago Ascacibar, and it’s not the news they wanted.

According to Ex, it’s not a move that’s financially viable at the moment, and that lone will be gutting for the Hammers, although should there be any change in the dying embers of the window, which could be very likely, then the supporters will all be informed.

Should the changes happen and the signing of Ascacibar becomes viable then it would be a brilliant signing from the Irons, as he makes for a perfect upgrade on Pedro Obiang. When comparing the two’s stats it makes for an interesting read and one that will make the Hammers want the Stuttgart man even more.

Using WhoScored’s player comparison tool, the Argentine trumps Obiang in tackles, interceptions and clearances per game. When going forward he’s also tidier too, pulling off more key passes, shots and dribbles per game than the departed West Ham man.

It’s a transfer that could easily be ignited this summer, but at the moment it looks like it probably won’t happen, even if it would be a superb piece of business to bring in the talented Bundeslga.2 man following his relegation last season.
