Opinion: Alleged transfer target would be good but West Ham can do better

|

Reliable source Claret and Hugh have claimed West Ham United are keen on signing Isaac Hayden this summer.

They mention that due to the apparent collapse of any possible deal for Andre Gomes, the Hammers will now step up their interest in the Newcastle United midfielder.

The 24-year-old is believed to be keen on moving back to the south of England because of family reasons and a move to the capital could very much suit him.

Indeed, a move to the London Stadium could also benefit us. Hayden has been solid for the Magpies in the second half of the season and appears to be finally reaching the potential that many would have felt he could reach during his youth.

He would be a good squad player for Manuel Pellegrini to be able to call upon, as he would add some depth to the side, however, you would have to feel we could do better in the transfer market.

Despite being solid, the 24-year-old is hardly an eye-catching signing or one that helps to prove the ambition that the Hammers are meant to have moving forward.

The likes of Kostas Fortounis (who they have apparently upped their offer for per SDNA) and Dani Ceballos (Express) have been rumoured with moves to the London Stadium and both would appear to be transfer targets well within their reach this summer.

After being linked with players of their quality, there would surely be a sense of disappointment that they ended up with Hayden and not someone else if they acquire the Newcastle midfielder.
