Opinion: After promising start, West Ham cannot get caught up in romantics

|

West Ham’s second spell under David Moyes has well and truly begun. The Hammers have started so well under the Scot, beating both Bournemouth and Gillingham to nil, but now the fans can really start to get into life under the former Manchester United boss.

With that being said, after just two games in charge, the Irons are looking forward to having an FA Cup run with Moyes at the helm, and after beating League One Gillingham the Hammers have been drawn against the Championship’s West Bromwich Albion.

That game doesn’t at all look like much, and it certainly isn’t a game that when you look at the players has much of a spark, unless of course you’re picking out Grady Diangana whose on loan from the Irons at The Hawthorns.

However, when you look at the man in charge of the Baggies, this game instantly has more bite to it. The Hammers will be set to welcome Slaven Bilic and his assistant Julian Dicks back to The London Stadium, and with the pair’s links to the Stratford club, the fans will be excited.

It was, of course, Bilic who led the club to a 7th placed finish when Dimitri Payet was doing his thing as one of the most talented players in the Premier League in the 2015/16 season, and with that campaign being the final one at Upton Park, Bilic will forever have his place in Irons’ folklore.

How important is a cup run this season?

Very important, we're staying up anyway!

Focus on the Premier League!

That cannot get in the way when the Croatian makes his return to Stratford at the end of the month, though. Moyes has got a big job to do, and he simply has to ignore all of the chat in the build-up and make this game against the Baggies just another game, hopefully, get a win and then await the draw for the 5th round of the tournament.
