Opinion: 17-goal striker is a very underrated option for West Ham

|

ExWHUEmployee has reported that Fedor Chalov is one of the strikers West Ham could be interested in signing this summer.

There are many supporters in the replies to his tweet who aren’t impressed, but the CSKA Moscow man would be a great addition in my opinion.

He may not be a big name signing, but the Russia international is 21-years-old, scores goals and has already shown he can deal with being on the big stage.

Javier Hernández was given the number 9 shirt and assured by Manuel Pellegrini that he will be a key player next season, as reported by ExWHUEmployee, but someone needs to be bought in to help deal with the Hammers’ long-standing striker problem.

With Hernández in mind, bringing in somebody to play alongside him or equally battle the Mexican for the starting spot may be a sensible option, as it could push both forwards on.

Most of the players Mario Husillos has actively pursued while at West Ham have fitted a certain profile: young enough to grow as a player, while possessing the ability to make a difference now – Chalov fits that mold.

He started 27 league matches for CSKA Moscow last season, coming on as a substitute three times and managed an impressive 15 goals and seven assists.

This was added to by two Champions League goals in six games, including a very coolly taken effort from the edge of the box to open the scoring in a 3-0 away win against Real Madrid.

West Ham fans are reaching desperation point as they await good news about whether or not a striker is coming in, with many holding out for a more well-known name than Chalov.

It can be a risk to sign a player from a lesser league, but considering the situation the Hammers find themselves in, Chalov could be a much better option than some fans are giving him credit for.
