I`ve never understood the supposed lure of playing your football north of the border.

I`ve always agreed with the old adage that any decent striker can get a hatful in the Scottish Leagues.

Therefore, forgive me if I don`t get too carried with the fact that tabloid speculation has us linked with being one of a quartet of clubs interested in bringing Gary Hooper back to English football.

Hooper, who signed for Celtic for a fee of £2.5 million from Scunthorpe, has scored 65 times in 111 games for the Glasgow giants and it is thought that the Essex born striker is keen on a move back to England.

At twenty-four years of age, Hooper should still have his best years to come, but having not proved himself at the top-level of English football, I don`t, as yet, share the enthusiasm apparently being shown by ourselves, Sunderland, Queens Park Rangers and Sunderland, unless, of course, the price is right!
