Some Irons supporters have been reacting online after West Ham Fan Zone shared a claim made by ExWHUemployee on the West Ham Way podcast, suggesting Aaron Cresswell could be moved on in the summer.

The £50,000-a-week left-back had been sharing duties with Arthur Masuaku following Manuel Pellegrini’s arrival last summer, but seemed to have nailed down a place in the starting eleven when the boss handed him the captain’s armband against Southampton in December.

Cresswell followed up his leading role in our 2-1 win at the Saints by starting twelve of our next 15 league games, before missing the end of the season with a minor knee problem.

The £9million-rated former England international also averaged 1.6 successful tackles per 90 minutes from 2.3 attempts a game, along with 1.3 interceptions, 2.4 clearances and 2.5 blocks shared across shots, crosses and passes from his 20 Premier League appearances under Pellegrini.

Masuaku, though, on average edged Cresswell for successful tackles with more completed than his elder teammate attempted, as well as interceptions and clearances.

That’s why some supporters would be sad to see Cresswell leave, while others feel Masuaku deserves to be favoured…

  • If you been to games or seen them on TV then you can understand why his got to go. Probably last two seasons been the worst left back I have known at west ham for years. Cant tackle no pace and goes AWOL. Sooner his gone and we get a proper left back the better . Not masu though keep him for further forward as his technically good and still young

  • Think they have both got weaknesses, one can’t defend, the other has lost his way since his pre season leg break
