News: West Ham youngster offers rallying cry ahead of relegation run-in

|

Relegation awaits for three of the five clubs who are in and around the dreaded drop zone, and the next few weeks will help us understand who will be facing a season in the Championship next year and who won’t, and it seems that Jarrod Bowen, West Ham’s latest signing, is up for the fight.

The young winger was signed from Hull City on the January transfer window deadline day for a fee of £20m plus add-ons (BBC), and ahead of what promises to be an intense run-in between now and May, the 23-year-old is certainly up for the battle as he looks to avoid adding a second relegation from England’s top-flight to his CV.

The first one came back in the 2016/17 season when the Tigers suffered the drop, a campaign in which the up-and-coming Bowen only managed seven appearances in the top flight (Transfermarkt), this time, though, he’ll be looking to do a lot more to help his new side avoid the drop.

Whilst speaking to The Evening Standard, Bowen certainly didn’t sound defeated at all, and it seems he’s ready to take the fight to the Hammers’ relegation rivals in the final months of the season as he’s desperate to keep the number relegations on his CV to just one.

Could Jarrod Bowen keep us up?

Yes

No

Talking about beating the drop, Bowen said:

‘I’m coming into it in my best form as well, so I’m just hoping that I get more chances and when I am out there on the pitch I have got to take it by the scruff of the neck and show my ability.’

‘I think it was important, especially coming into a game like this just to have my first couple of touches and I got that. But they’re a very good side, there is no denying that, so we just move onto the next game now.’

‘There is a tough run of games but the pressure is not on us at Anfield as no-one expects us to get anything from the game, so we can use that to our advantage before going into the final run when we play a lot of teams in the bottom half and we expect to pick up points and get ourselves out of this position.’
