News: West Ham without this player really struggle

|

The importance of Lukasz Fabianski to this West Ham side has perhaps not been realised until we have to deal without him.

Fab, who earns around £65,000 per week, was voted as Player of the Season last year, and before his injury, we were flying high in fifth.

Since the Polish international tore his hip, however, the Hammers have not won in six.

A blog post by WhoScored in the Guardian has revealed just how important Fabianski is to our side.

Since he joined for a bargain £7m, no goalkeeper in the league has a better save percentage (72.4%), and no other keeper has made fewer errors leading to direct goals – one.

To put this into context, Roberto has made two already.

Also, before Fab’s injury, we were on a five-match unbeaten run and had kept three clean-sheets in a row, but since then, 13 goals have flown into the back of the net.

Will Fabianski's return save the season?

Yes

No

The run of games was not exactly hard either as all bar Everton finished below us last year.

Fabianski is a superb goalkeeper, and perhaps we are only now starting to realise just how important he was to the side.

The next four games include three matches with last season’s top six, and things could get worse before they get better.

Let’s just hope Fabianski makes a speedy recovery.
