News: West Ham readying pay-off for flop to get him out of the club in summer

|

Manuel Pellegrini’s time at West Ham was varied. Some of the business that the Chilean conducted was nothing of sublime, bringing in the likes of Lukasz Fabianski (BBC) and Pablo Fornals (BBC) who are fan favourites and brilliant players with talent in abundance and a mentality to match.

However, there are also examples of flops, with Carlos Sanchez (BBC) and Jack Wilshere (BBC) perfect examples of that, and now it’s come out that the Hammers are ready to offer Wilshere a pay-off to get the 28-year-old out of the club and out of his current £100,000 per/week deal that he’s been on seen joining in 2018 (Spotrac).

The reports of Wilshere potentially having his deal terminated have come from Football Insider, and if anything it’s a surprise that it’s taken this long for talk of the ex-Arsenal man being on his way to surface, seeing as his massive wages haven’t been matched by his game time, with just 16 appearances adding up to 712 minutes as a Hammer so far (Transfermarkt).

Can Wilshere turn his career around?

Yes

No

This news will come as music to the ears of the fans, getting rid of Wilshere would allow the Irons to bring in a new midfielder with the wages that would be freed up, and this time they could be set to bring in someone who will actually be able to play week in week out.

The article from Football Insider states:

‘West Ham chiefs have talked about offering Jack Wilshere a pay-off to leave.’

‘The England international, 28, has made little impact at the London Stadium since signing as a big-name free transfer in the summer of 2018.’

‘The club are now ready to explore more drastic measures to get Wilshere off their wage bill.’

‘This includes offering a mutual termination of his contract, which has 15 months remaining and is worth around £100,000-a-week.’

‘This possibility would see the former Arsenal man secure a handsome pay-off to leave but one which falls short of the £6m-plus remaining on his deal.’

‘There is growing acceptance at West Ham that Wilshere’s body can’t cope with the demands of Premier League football.’

‘He has made just 16 appearances in two seasons and has been sidelined due to injury since mid-October.’
