‘No brainer’ – These West Ham fans react as Moyes readies war with Euro side over £1.5m talent

A few West Ham United fans have been reacting on social media to reports by the Mirror, claiming David Moyes is ready to go to war with AC Milan over Wigan Athletic’s Antonee Robinson.

It is claimed in the Mirror’s live transfer feed (07/08, 13:31) that Moyes is battling Milan and a number of Premier League and Championship clubs for the signature of Robinson after the USA international was made available for just £1.5million.

Wigan are desperate to raise funds following their enforced relegation into League One having been deducted 12-points, which activated a release clause in Robinson’s contract that makes the former Everton trainee available for far less than the £10m Milan agreed to pay in January.

Robinson’s proposed winter move to the San Siro fell through at the last minute when the 22-year-old failed a medical with the Serie A side, having revealed a heart condition that required months of subsequent treatment.

The USMNT full-back returned to action in June in line with the resumption of the 2019/20 campaign, going on to end the season with 38 starts over 38 Championship appearances to his name.

Robinson had a hand in two league goals for the Latics, coming in a 2-2 draw with Millwall last November and providing the assist against Charlton Athletic that put Wigan 2-1 up before conceding a 92nd-minute equaliser.

The two points dropped at the Valley would have been enough for Wigan to secure their survival, with Paul Cook’s side ultimately ending the campaign 10-points clear of the drop zone but with a better goal difference than Barnsley who stayed up thanks to the Latics’ penalty.

Moyes was in attendance for Wigan’s draw with Charlton to observe Robinson’s performance, in which he recorded 60 touches, completed 21 of 28 passes, delivered one accurate cross (50%), created one big chance to score, made two clearances, one interception, one tackle, won six of 11 ground duels, one of four aerial duels and made four successful dribbles, per Sofa Score.

West Ham fans reacting on social media to Moyes’ willingness to rival Milan have offered a variety of takes, with some seeing the potential £1.5m deal as a ‘no brainer’ while others doubt the Hammers’ appeal will be enough to edge out the Rossoneri’s.
