Report: West Ham given boost as sensation makes transfer stance clear after rejected bid

|

Matty Cash has made it clear to Nottingham Forest he wishes to quit the Championship side amid transfer interest from West Ham and Sheffield United, according to Football Insider.

Cash is believed to have informed the Forest hierarchy that he wants to complete a move away from the City Ground this summer to pursue a career in the Premier League after Sabri Lamouchi’s side missed out on a Play-Off finish.

Forest have already received an eight-figure transfer offer from Sheffield United but snubbed the £10million bid, which seems to have sparked Cash to request his boyhood side rethink their position.

The City Ground natives are thought to be holding out for the £12m asked from West Ham in January when the east London outfit first held discussions over a potential transfer, though now face waiting to see if the Irons or Blades return with the final two million requested.

Discussions will no doubt be underway at the London Stadium and Bramall Lane to decide if Cash is worth paying £12m for in the midst of a global crisis.

Slough-born Cash started 40 of his 42 Championship appearances in the recently concluded campaign, only missing minutes in four fixtures all term, and provided three goals and five assists exclusively from right-back.

The former Dagenham & Redbridge loanee also helped to 14 clean sheets, never missed a big chance to score or commit an error that led to a shot, and averaged 2.6 tackles, 3.0 clearances, 1.4 interceptions, 1.0 successful dribbles, 6.4 total duels won, 65.1 touches and 24.6 accurate passes – including 0.7 accurate crosses and 1.1 key balls – per Sofa Score data.

Is Matty Cash worth £12m?

Yes

No

Cash now appearing to have handed in a formal transfer request will come as a huge boost to West Ham’s hopes of beating Sheffield United to the 23-year-old’s signature, but the final hurdles are not yet cleared.

West Ham are not looking to rush into a bidding war with Sheffield United due to the Hammers’ financial situation, which has left manager David Moyes needing to sell some of those already at the London Stadium before new faces can arrive.

Moyes, and his counterpart Chris Wilder, are at least not looking likely to face competition from Southampton or Burnley for the Championship sensation, after the Saints agreed a deal for Tottenham Hotspur’s Kyle Walker-Peters and the Clarets’ interest was refuted.
