Word On The Tweet

Lots of West Ham fans commented the same thing on player’s Twitter update

Maxi Gomez, will he join us at West Ham United this summer? Or will he opt to stay in Spain with a move to Valencia instead? Those seem to be the questions on a number of fans’ lips this summer as we continue to wait with anticipation regarding his decision.

Over the last six months or so, transfer speculation has been rife regarding the Uruguayan forward as the Standard claimed back in January that we had almost completed a deal for him before it was pulled at the last minute as Celta de Vigo wanted to keep him as they battled against relegation – to which they managed to avoid as he netted 13 goals in his 35 La Liga appearances – which would be an upgrade on any of our current crop of individuals as Marko Arnautovic led the charts with just 11 in all competitions (Transfermarkt), making our need for a striker all the more clearer.

Fast forward to the present day and, well, we do not seem to be any closer to getting a deal done for the South American. Sky Sports recently claimed West Ham had an offer accepted which got us all excited, however, local media outlet Faro de Vigo revealed our bid had been rejected as they were keen to continue negotiations with Valencia over a possible cash plus Santi Mina swap deal. Confusing or what?!

However, with Gomez on international duty until Uruguay’s Copa America comes to an end, it is unlikely a deal with anyone will be concluded imminently. But, that has not stopped fans from bombarding his Twitter account in an attempt to bring him to the London Stadium this summer.

After posting a tweet celebrating his national side’s 4-0 win against Ecuador – a game he did not feature in – lots of West Ham supporters were quick to tell him that we needed him, with many of them posting the hammer emoji. Here are just some of their reactions…
