West Ham may have to rethink transfer plans if 17-goal target’s reported stance is true

Konstantinos Fortounis would rather stay at Olympiacos than move to West Ham, according to the Guardian.

The Greek international only has one year left on his contract, so would have been in a strong position had he wanted to force a move but it seems he wants to stay with the club of which he is captain.

He scored 12 league goals and assisted nine times in 28 games this season, while also recording five goals and six assists across 12 matches in the Europa League and its qualifiers – including two goals and assists across two legs against Burnley.

It had been reported by Greek outlet SDNA that the Hammers had got much closer to Olympiacos’ 17 million euro asking price, meaning there was a chance of a deal being struck up.

However, it now seems the Greek giants would need to persuade their captain to leave if any move is to materialise.

West Ham have many other midfield targets, including Eibar’s Joan Jordan and Morgan Sanson of Marseille who they will now likely turn their attention to now that the Fortounis deal is seemingly falling through.

This isn’t the first time West Ham have been set back by a midfielder this transfer window, as AndrĂ© Gomes did the same when he claimed he would prefer a move to Everton than London Stadium.
