It’s obvious: Only one man deserves West Ham’s Hammer of the Year award this season

|

The end of the season is, of course, a time to consider the future, but it’s also a time to take in the past. Specifically, it’s a time to reflect on the season that’s just gone and celebrate those that which have made it special.

That time is certainly coming for West Ham, with the Hammers confirming that their end of season awards will be on the 8th of May and hosted by Jeff Stelling.

It’ll be an opportunity to praise those whom we’ve enjoyed seeing this season, but surely, the prestigious Hammer of the Year award is easy to predict this year?

Though we’ve had a few good individual performers, Lukasz Fabianski has been a level above the rest – and it’s not even close.

He’s kept us in so many games this term, and without him, there’s no doubting that we’d be far closer to the bottom than we currently are.

Sure, he’s no youngster, but if you didn’t know his age, you’d be forgiven for thinking that he was a goalkeeper in his mid-20s, given his agility and poise between the sticks. He’s been so consistent, and he’s been so important.

We’ve got to admit, we weren’t expecting much when he joined, but over the last few months he’s proved us wrong, and we’re looking forward to watching him get even better next season.

Others deserve a special mention, like Declan Rice, who has enjoyed a brilliant debut season in the top flight, but for us? It’s got to be the goalkeeper.
