Hammers Match Zone

Ian Wright’s prediction for West Ham v Liverpool does not make pretty reading for Hammers fans

West Ham United are in a dire run of form at present, having lost to Bournemouth, AFC Wimbledon, and Wolverhampton Wanderers in their past three fixtures, which leaves BT Sport pundit and former West Ham striker Ian Wright to believe the Hammers will fold against Liverpool.

The Daily Star have quoted Wright telling Premier League Today that the Hammers will be the perfect opposition for Jurgen Klopp’s Reds on Monday night, as their inconsistent form of late will be a welcome boost to the Premier League chasers.

“West Ham in the currently climate, for me I’d say it’s the perfect game for Liverpool,” Wright said.

“They’re very inconsistent, really strange. Really strange. [Marko] Arnautovic is injured, so that’s definitely gonna be a weakness for them.

“But all Liverpool have to do really is just be professional, just play your game, play at a decent pace, ‘cos what will happen is West Ham will crumble under that kind of pressure.”

If Manuel Pellegrini’s side are to prove the BBC Radio 5Live and BT Sport presenter’s opinion wrong, players like Angelo Ogbonna and Aaron Cresswell will have to step up to the occasion in the absence of Fabian Balbuena and perform.

Michail Antonio is also in with a shout of featuring at the London Stadium due to Samir Nasri’s calf injury, which will give the Hammers pace on the wing and support for Pablo Zabaleta against Sadio Mane.
