“I can see why” – Pundit tips other clubs to join West Ham in race for £3.15m-rated talent

Former Premier League midfielder Michael Brown believes that West Ham will be joined by a host of clubs in the race for the Wigan Athletic defender Antonee Robinson.

His side find themselves in the desperately sad situation of entering administration and are set for a 12-point deduction as a result, the first side to do since the temporary suspension of the 2019/20 campaign.

With the Latics currently sitting in 15th in the Championship table, it would mean that they would drop to the bottom below Barnsley. Potential relegation to League One could see some of their prized assets sold off to make up for their loss of income, with Robinson linked with a move to the London Stadium.

Speaking with Football Insider, Brown spoke of his devastation for Wigan and that Robinson will attract big names due to his outstanding performances.

Should West Ham sign Antonee Robinson this summer?

Yes

No

No

“He’s had some big links to some big clubs, hasn’t he, Robinson? There’s going to be some takers and I can see why West Ham would be interested.

“It’s so sad the situation at Wigan at the moment. It’s shocking.

“Yes, there’s going to be players going out but I’ve just got to say the players like Robinson have been sensational at Wigan Athletic to go and get another result and keep going.

“It’s just up against them now, they’d have to win all their remaining games to stay up if the 12-point reduction is put in place.”

Although the initial report did not include a price for Robinson, TransferMarkt rates him at £3.15m. With the unfortunate struggles that Wigan are going through at this time, the Hammers may be able to get him for a similar price that the Latics paid for him when he signed from Everton.

During that time, he has scored once and provided one assist in 61 appearances for the club, including 35 outings in all competitions this season.

The former USA international almost made a sensational move to AC Milan, but due to medical complications, the proposed £6m move did not take place.

For sure, Robinson is one for the future. A talented individual that is attracting some of the biggest names in European football. With West Ham seeking for young blood in defence, the youngster would be perfect for the East London outfit.
