Ex-Premier League striker Kevin Phillips has said that West Ham United’s newly-signed Jarrod Bowen will be raring to go once the football gets up and running again.

The 23-year-old only arrived on the scene from the Championship side Hull City for £22m back in January before the campaign was suspended.

Bowen has got his name on the scoresheet though. From four appearances, he found the net during out 3-1 victory over Southampton back in February and was in pretty good form with four straight starts for David Moyes’ side.

Speaking to Football Insider, Phillips believes that Bowen will be more hungry than the day he arrived at the club.

Is Bowen part of our best XI?

Yes

No

“He got a taste of what it is like there. It took a few games to get him in the side but Moyes has dealt with him well”, he said.

“He is a player that will need to come back strong because of the situation West Ham are in. Bowen has undoubted quality. The early signs were very good.

“He will be desperate to hit the ground running when we return. After the break, he will be like a new signing again.”

After the government approved professional sport to return from June 1st, the report adds that the Premier League could return as early as the second week of that month, with Moyes’ side currently sitting 16th in the table, level on points with Watford and Bournemouth who are all snaking into the relegation zone.

Bowen has not had luck on his side since he walked through the doors at the London Stadium. However, he can look back on his early form in the claret and blue with pride as he has foundations that he can build upon.

After scoring 22 goals from 46 appearances for Hull City last season, we all know what he is capable of. With plenty of game time, he has the potential to replicate that, or even better it.
