Hammers Target Brazilian Defender

|

With Manuel Pellegrini now in charge, we’re expecting the Hammers activity in the summer transfer market to ramp up quite quickly.

The inclination, from the Chilean, is that he is looking to bring in at least five new players.

With James Collins having departed, one area that Pellegrini will be looking to improve is the defence, the number of goals West Ham conceded last season was always going to leave us struggling to make an impact in the Premier League.

Already, the name of one possible defensive recruit has been forthcoming.

According to the Spanish news source, mundo deportivo, West Ham are leading the race to sign the Barcelona defender Marlon Santos.

Santos, just 22-years-of-age, has spent time on loan in La Ligue, with Nice, where his reputation has grown.

But what do we know about this young Brazilian defender?

So far during his fledgeling career, Santos has appeared for the Brazilian outfit, Fluminense, before moving to Europe where he signed for Barcelona, for whom he has made just a couple of appearances, before heading to Nice.

On the international stage, his appearances, so far, have been limited to playing for the Brazil U20 side.

Currently, the player is tied to a 2-year loan deal with Nice with the French club having the option to sign him for €20 million.

Now whether West Ham can lure the player to London remains to be seen as does the huge question as to whether he can cut the mustard in the hectic football played in the Premier League.

Here at Vital West Ham we’ll keep an eye out for any further developments and report back as deemed necessary.

But what are your views on this possible signing, do you see him as an improvement on what we already have?
