An opening fixture defeat, a heavy one, certainly dampened our pre-season enthusiasm.

Thoughts of starting the season with a decent result fell by the wayside courtesy of a Liverpool onslaught that was, at times, relentless.

Here at Vital West Ham, our immediate reaction after the game was one of doom and gloom, based on the fact we’d spent a fortune on a plethora of new players but hadn’t done any better than in any of our two previous fixtures against Liverpool.

But, letting things settle for an hour or two, hopefully letting the angst dissipate, we delved into the social media network sites to gauge our fellow supporter’s reactions.

It seems that things probably aren’t as bad as we first thought and there were several postings we found backing this view, here are a selection that may, or may not, inspire you to leave a comment of your own or two in the facility beneath this article:

  • I think the squad is still unbalanced and the priority was a quality defensive midfielder which we didn’t get. Again, we look sluggish and didn’t compete – yes it’s Liverpool, but teams like Burnley and Palace will go to
Anfield and compete. I think it’s worrying and we’ll ship goals by the bucket again this season.
As someone said in another blog -our midfield has as much legs as Heather Mills.
Pellegrini likes to attack, but I think defensively he is pretty clueless – let’s wait and see……..
