Hammers Midfielder Moves On To Seek Fresh Challenge

|

News has broken this morning that West Ham United have sold their Senegalese midfielder Cheikhou Kouyate.

The 28-year-old, according to the news source, the BBC has signed for our London rivals Crystal Palace.

Kouyate has put pen-to-paper on a four-year deal although the size of the transfer fee West Ham will have received is somewhat secretive, with it being described as undisclosed.

With the Hammers having embarked on a summer transfer window recruitment campaign, the likes of which we’ve not witnessed before, it was, perhaps, inevitable that several of the squad of last season would be moving on.

Kouyate, who spent four seasons with the Hammers making 129 Premier League appearances and scoring 12 goals, has described leaving West Ham as,

“This is the right time to move because I needed a new challenge.”

With the club having recruited heavily in the midfield department this summer, Kouyate has, perhaps, realised that his place in the starting eleven is no longer guaranteed and at 28-years-of-age he requires regular first-team football.

Kouyate, in my opinion, was the kind of player that, whilst at West Ham, wasn’t always as consistent as he should have been, a trait that probably has cost him his place at the club. On his day he was a real powerhouse but, too often, he drifted in and out of games.

But, that’s just my opinion, is it something you concur with or would you disagree?

However, I’m sure you’ll join me in wishing the player all the best at Crystal Palace and when our paths cross again I’m sure the Hammers faithful will give him the ovation he deserves.
