Hammers Linked With Move For International Defender

|

With Manuel Pellegrini now at the managerial helm at the London Stadium, our hopes are that the experienced manager will be able to entice some world-class talent to the club this summer.

With the owners having stated that the club will spend more this summer than they have ever done in previous transfer windows, the possibility exists that some big-names could be headed to the club.

This morning, lurking in the new source, the Metro, is the inference that the Hammers could be looking at making a move for the Manchester United centre-back Chris Smalling.

Smalling, 29-years-of-age, finished the season strongly for his club but wasn’t selected for the England World Cup squad by Gareth Southgate.

With Jose Mourinho looking to improve his squad this summer, there is the possibility that any move for Smalling, providing the transfer fee is agreeable, could be sanctioned.

But, with our source inferring that West Ham have a transfer war-chest of £70 million, you have to ask yourself just how much of that chest would be swallowed up by a successful bid for the centre-back.

Or indeed, whether you, the West Ham faithful can see Chris Smalling in a West Ham shirt next season.
