Am I alone in being disappointed at how West Ham United have fared in the transfer window in recent times?

Am I alone when it comes to being disappointed at the calibre of some of the signings made?

I`m guessing not!

However, with it being promised that changes to the recruitment policy are set to be implemented, I`m hopeful things will improve.

Let`s hope so.

Today, as we await the return of Premier League football, with Southampton the visitors to the London Stadium this Saturday, the Hammers are being linked with the acquisition of a striker.

According to the tabloid publication, the Daily Mirror, the Hammers are confident of signing Fyodor Smolov.

Smolov, 28-years-of-age is currently on the books of Krasnodar and is also the captain of the Russian national side.

As for a possible fee, our source is quoting the sum of £15 million, which seems reasonable in this day and age whereby transfer fees are over-inflated.

But, knowing very little about the player, it has to be asked whether he can cut the mustard in the competitive Premier League.

Our view is that, if the deal is secured, it could be another of those risky ones West Ham seem more than capable of pulling off!
