The Telegraph mentioned the other day Robert Green would have made it into the England squad for the upcoming Euro 2012 qualification matches if he wasn`t due an operation. A worrying piece of news to throw in and I had the horrible thought we might be losing him for a while.
After the game at Old Trafford, Avram Grant confirmed to the official website that Green will undergo a minor operation in the next week.
The good news is he`s expected to return to training before the Chelsea game.
Grant didn`t specify what the minor procedure was meant to correct but judging by the couple of athletic saves he made on Saturday it can`t be that debilitating.
It`s a huge relief we have nothing to worry about but it does highlight that we could do with another experienced keeper in the squad. Hopefully a new pair of well-worn gloves will appear before the end of August.
