There have been a lot of claims that our summer transfer budget before sales will only be between £25m and £35million. However, Irons supporters on Twitter have been reacting to one notion that Mario Husillos has identified two potential signings that would cost at least £52million combined.
The pair are Fulham’s Aleksandar Mitrovic and Celta Vigo’s Maxi Gomez, who both could be on the move this summer to sure up our refreshed attack, that could be without Marko Arnautovic and Javier Hernandez.
Fulham, though, are understood to be after at least £30m for their Serbian centre-forward, as they know they stand little chance of retaining the 11-Premier League goal hitman following their relegation.
Gomez, meanwhile, could set us back £22million if Celta are relegated to the Segunda Division this season – the Balaidos natives’ fight looks set to go down to the wire, with five clubs scrapping to stay in La Liga.
Beyond Mitrovic and Gomez, our transfer guru has also set out plans to sign a box-to-box midfielder, a full-back, and a back-up goalkeeper.
A new goalkeeper will be needed in the next transfer window, as Adrian is set to leave once his contract expires in the summer. The club also do not feel academy star Nathan Trott is ready for a first-team role.
As for the box-to-box midfielder, one option could be Franck Kessie, with AC Milan’s Ivorian star previously linked with a move to the London Stadium.
For now, though, here’s what some of the London Stadium faithful made of Husillos’ supposed top targets…
We need both with Carroll off!
Shift Arnie to supplement the deal & wages, but 2 young, relatively injury free players & 1 with proven in the PL!
Both around the £30m mark, so I’d get Gomez in 1st as Celts Vigo aren’t going down so he’ll cost more & try to get Fulham late on?— Steven McCarthy ???? (@StevenMcCarthy9) April 24, 2019
So we are resigning Carlton Cole getting Scotty Parker back to fill box to box role and Adrian will sign a one year extension

With 35m that will be a laugh

Don’t think Goalkeeper is essential Trott shoud be given a chance to be backup

Would love to see us move for Franck Kessie, would be perfect for the box-to-box role; although not sure with our budget that would be realistic

Need to go for someone like Butland

Happy with that tbh

We can get good players for less money if we actually put effort into scouting them – no one would have thought Balbuena would be a starting CB when he only cost 4m. Some real gems in Ligue 1 – Sangare would be perfect long-term partner for rice and we could get him for 20m max

Maxi will only happen if they get relegated, Mitro a good buy. With player sales it’s viable but what funds will that leave for the b2b midfielder and someone else? We should also go for Cairney

Makes you wonder if they are after all these players and planning to upgrade those positions, what player/assets do we have worth that kind of money?

All for £25 mill. Good luck with that !
