“Found it hard to go to bed” – Roshane Thomas gives scathing verdict on West Ham’s defeat to Spurs

West Ham are in serious trouble.

That’s the reality of it following their 2-0 defeat to Tottenham on Tuesday, which saw them slip to 17th in the Premier League table, level on points with Bournemouth.

A controversial own goal from Tomas Soucek and a late finish from Harry Kane ensured that the north London outfit took all three points from the affair.

With seven games to go, David Moyes’ side are once again in the grasp of an intense relegation battle, which over the years, they haven’t always avoided.

Speaking on The Athletic’s U Irons Podcast (24/06, 0:38), Thomas did not hold back in his criticisms and concerns for the club going forward.

Will West Ham avoid relegation this season?

Yes

No

“For me personally, I found it hard to go to bed last night”, he said.

“I was so frustrated by that performance. In many ways, it was quite similar to the 1-0 defeat to Arsenal where we had so many chances but couldn’t put them away.

“Mark Noble had a great chance in the first minute, Bowen hit the post, Fornals had a good chance similar to the goal that he scored against Liverpool.

“We are in the relegation battle here. We cannot keep squandering these big chances and we need to put them away. Obviously, as the old saying goes, goals change games, and we just aren’t doing that right now.”

There is no denying that it was painful to watch, and it makes you wonder where the Hammers’ next win is going to come from.

With Chelsea next on the horizon, West Ham have the chance of doing the double over their London rivals and will have to be at the top of their game to take anything from the encounter.
