Carlos Sanchez turned 33 on Wednesday, and the West Ham United official Twitter account wishing the Colombian a happy birthday actually reminded a lot of fans he still plays for the Hammers.
Sanchez only joined the club from Fiorentina in the summer and marked Manuel Pellegrini’s ninth signing of the window, as the Chilean put the final touches on his first West Ham squad.
The Colombian midfielder, however, has been sidelined with a season-ending knee injury ever since September 26, 2018, as the 88-cap international was forced to undergo surgery.
It meant Pellegrini’s man only recorded six appearances in Claret and Blue before his season was over.
Sanchez’s absence has ensured the Chilean manager has been weakened in the heart of midfield throughout the current campaign, as fellow summer arrival Jack Wilshere and Argentina international Manuel Lanzini have also spent significant time in the treatment room.
When the 33-year-old returns to action next season, he will be entering into the final year of his contract, but for many of the London Stadium faithful, it will be like a new signing…
