Guillermo Franco looks to be the out of contract striker that we have been monitoring.

The 32 year-old Mexican international is due for a medical at Upton Park before signing a one year deal. His contract with Villareal expired in the suummer, making him a free agent.

Franco heads to England after playing and scoring for Mexico against Costa Rica on Saturday.

‘I sure he is a player who can make a good contribution,’ said Gianfranco Zola.

As far as freebie strikers go, this deal looks okay. Time will tell though, as we know after having the likes of Kepa Blanco, Di Michele and Tristan on our books over recent seasons.
