Calum Davenport has joined Watford on a month’s loan, with a view to joining the Championship side in a permanent switch.

Davenport, 25, joined West Ham in January 2007 for a fee of £3m from Spurs but has only made six appearances in the league for the first team.

Once also on loan at Southampton, Norwich and here at West Ham years before his permanent transfer, Davenport is yet to play for the Hammers so far this season having been injured and generally kept out of favour by the form of Anton Ferdinand, Matthew Upson and the convenience of Danny Gabbidon, James Collins and Jonathan Spector on stand-by.

‘The manager seems really positive and I’m itching to get back out there as it’s been so long now,’ the Bedford born player added.
