Long serving veteran West Ham defender Christian Dailly has been allowed to leave the club after seven years of playing at Upton Park to join Scottish SPL side Rangers.

Dailly, 34, has been granted permission to leave the Hammers and is understood to be very close to finalising a deal with the Ibrox club as a replacement for new Spurs signing Alan Hutton who completed a deal away from Rangers today.

Capped 66 times by Scotland, Dailly has made 133 league appearances for West Ham and in many fans’ point of view, is a ‘football genius’ regardless of his natural ability and will always be seen as a loyal servant.

However, the former Blackburn man has not made an appearance for West Ham yet this season due to injury and form of other players so subsequently spent a short period on loan at Southampton earlier in the season.

Having started this career with Dundee United, Dailly returns to play in his homeland in what is surely the last club in his enviable career – making his Scotland U21 début aged just 16 in 1990 and also playing out a stint at Derby County aswell as Blackburn, Dundee United and of course here, since 2001.

So Christian, from all at Vital West Ham, it’s been fantasic having you here. Through the bad times in relegation, to the good when you played in the FA Cup Final, Play Off promotion and when you sang on the pitch, it’s been fantastic having you here – always one of the best characters at the club. Farewell, we wish you a happy remainder of your career.
