“Cracking player”, “I loved this guy” – Many West Ham were in awe of what “legend” did

Plenty of West Ham United fans have been reacting online to a restaurant that former Hammer Sebastien Schemmel has opened.

The Frenchman is a man who is synonymous as far as our club’s cult hero history is concerned, and certainly comes under this category due to his obscurity and the fact he was a winner of the Hammer of the Year award.

Schemmel spent two years at the Boleyn Ground between 2001 and 2003, scoring just once in 64 appearances in the claret and blue, and illustrated his appreciated for our club by opening a restaurant in Luxembourg dedicated to the East London side.

Was Sebastien Schemmel's time at West Ham a success?

Yes

No

No

Appropriately named ‘Upton Park’, Schemmel decided to become a Restauranteur once he hung up his boots, having previously turned down the idea of becoming a pundit and coach.

With this in mind, supporters were in awe of what Schemmel did and made their feelings clear on social media. One fan described him as a “cracking player”, while another said that he “loved this guy”.
