According to the morning press, West Ham United Football Club are closing in on one of their summer transfer targets.

On a couple of occasions we`ve mentioned that the Hammers are keen on bringing the six feet four inch defender Cheikhou Kouyate

Well it appears that negotiations are starting to pay off with the Anderlecht defender, who is a Senegalese international, with a fee of £7.5 million on his head with a club source providing the following remark to the media,

“We believe we are close to an agreement.”

“He has had his mind set on joining us since we showed an interest.”

“If we clinch the deal we will have beaten off interest from some serious clubs and we are optimistic.”

Therefore it would seem that we`ve every reason to be optimistic that, following on from the signing of the Argentine forward Mauro Zarate, Cheikhou Kouyate will be the second major signing made by West Ham United this summer.
